Reviews of Late: a ghostly tale from Amazon Readers

A tense read

I spotted this story and thought it'd be just the thing for a cold winter night in bed. I wasn't wrong - it was a short, well written story with plenty of tension built up at all the right parts. If I had one recommendation, it would be that a bit of a back story would have added something to the tale, even a couple of hints at the origin of the events.

Overall, though, this was a nice (if you can call a scary story 'nice'!) little snippet of traditional, ghostly horror.

Nail-biting spookiness

Louise has written a very atmospheric tale. I don't do spooky stories usually so was reading this through the gaps in my fingers. As the suspense built up, I found I couldn't look away. A great ghost story I recommend to teachers everywhere and anyone who has ever been to school ;)

A great start to a fantastically talented writer's future!
Loved reading this short story and recommend it highly (although next time I might think again before reading it last thing at night!) Can't wait for the next book to be released.

Exciting

I was hooked from the moment I started reading. Keeps you guessing till the end. Just couldn't put it down. A good read for when you need a little "me" time.

Fantastic short story, will make me rethink those noises I hear late at night! I look forward to reading the next one.

Petrified and Wanting More!

Read this on my own at lunch in the small TV room at work, I was gripped from the very beginning not daring to look around me at the various noises I could hear.

Absolutely fantastic read and left me wanting more, I can't wait to read the next one!

Spine-tingling

The nights are drawing in and our thoughts turn to shutting the curtains against the dark and reading spooky stories. Luckily I stumbled upon this short, sinister tale at the perfect time of year.

Louise West spins her story deftly and assuredly, building the tension from the very first paragraph and using beautiful imagery. The whole situation, from character to setting was very realistic, making it all too easy to become immersed in the story and forget it was fiction. I had actual goosebumps by the end, and was very glad not to be alone that night.

A definate must read for anyone who likes their short stories with a sinister edge.

Spooooooooooky!!

An amazing read that sent chills down my spine. A perfect story for Halloween. Can't wait to read more from this fantastic new author!

A Chilling Tale

"Late" promises something special from the first paragraph, building the suspense gradually before reaching a terrifying conclusion. Set in an old Victorian school, history is never far away and as darkness falls it creeps ever closer...
